The UK has such incredible areas of outstanding beauty; Fresh air, stunning scenery and 360 degree views! The rolling hills and sweeping valley’s hold some really nice places that are interesting to all!
Here are a few places that I have explored myself over the years and would be great places to take a family!
Blea Tarn
This is beautiful location any time of the year! I visited here in February and the winter scenery was amazing! Happily go back!
Definitely worth a walk, hike cycle or picnic! We drove past this place and despite not planning to visit we squeezed a little wander in on the way home and were very glad we did!
The roads to get here are long and up hills and valley’s but we saw many families cycling also!
The car park for the Lake is a National trust car park as a lot of the car-parks in the lake district , they are also expensive and require the correct change so it is well worth considering either becoming a National Trust member for the month (there are often offers for membership online or in the Telegraph).

Carding Mill Valley
Fantastic location for a picnic or a walk or a swim even, Parking information to check out is on the interactive map,
Left path takes you to the reservoir and is sloping and has steps, the path to the waterfall is very rocky and uneven and slim, some scrambling is required if you are short.
Not all areas are suitable for buggies and it does get very busy in the summer but its a vast area so despite the large amounts of people there is always a spot!

Cathedral Quarry
This is a beautiful location, there are many way to get to this place, many hills, fields and paths and streams to sit by and take in the view its a beautiful wander to the quarry there is a path it is visited by a lot of people but with a bit of luck and timing you can have this incredible space to yourself!
Not all areas are suitable for buggies and it does get very busy in the summer but its a vast area so despite the large amounts of people there is always a spot!
Parking is something you should definitely consider researching before you go depending on your direction of approach as its windy hills and valleys around the entire area although I well recommend going in one of the local pubs for a spot of lunch!

Gordale Scar
This place is beautiful, there is some flat land some hills a nice flat path to the waterfall and stunning views, there is a waterfall walk if you are brave enough, I’ve seen many people scale the waterfall and go up into the hillside and not return that way, This is a place i would certainly recommend for a paddle, a picnic and a walk, lots of open space and spectacular views, I would imagine it gets very busy in the summer,

Grywch Castle
Loved this place, you can see it from the expressway and despite the castle appearance this folly is great to walk around even as a ruin!
Great place in the summer lots of lovely grass areas to picnic with great seaside views!
they have a website and a preservation trust with events ongoing through out the year and daily self guided tours which give you access to parking there! priced at £5 per and £2.50 per child, this wasn’t available on my visit so if you do go feel free to contact myself with a review, more information below

Hardraw Force Waterfall
From Robin Hood Prince of thieves!
This place is definitely only a place that is seasonal!, despite ringing and emailing and researching on the internet you very much have to turn up and hope it is open!, If the pub isnt open either you might find yourself in a sticky spot as the toilets werent open either! You have to pay to enter the waterfall via a turn style, correct change its £2.50 per adult/£1.50 per child, That being said threes a large grassy areas well away from the falls and walks and a stream so it does look like a great place to spend some family time! Nice flat easy tracks and paths, wetter towards the waterfall!

Janets Foss
One of those locations that you seen an image and know that you have to go there yourself!, good for families with slightly older children; Janet’s foss is a nice place for walking. There is a path leading along the river down from the waterfall I didn’t follow it far so you’ll have to see for yourself what is beyond it! It is one of the prettiest waterfalls I’ve seen, great to visit all year around and shallow enough for a quick paddle if you are that way inclined!

Lumsdale Falls
Nice places for a walk about, it does seem like there’s a tour available as there was one walking around as we were there, falls and ruins are spread over the valley, there is a path but it isn’t flat there are places at the sides of the river where you can get a closer look but also drops and edges, you can park up by the school and walk down into the valley, its free! I’ve included its location on the interactive map also!
Not all areas are suitable for buggies and it does get very busy in the summer but its a vast area so despite the large amounts of people there is always a spot!
From what I remember there are not that any grassy areas for picnics but the entire area is beautiful so there may well be other places nearby that would make excellent picnic locations!

Pistyll Rhaedar Waterfall
Been here many times, It could be expensive if you went into to the tea rooms and had a large family, I’ve never been in there myself so I couldn’t comment on what it is like but they do have an excellent website full of information and there are toilets and the owners are very friendly. I was a bit disappointed on the amount of litter left by visitors on my last visit and am hoping people will be a bit kinder to nature!

Ramshaw Rocks, the Roaches
Free parking!
This place has great views and parking not far from them at all.
Most people walk around the top of the rocks which is windy and uneven and could be complicated with very small children, underneath the rocks there is a sloping grass area that is sheltered from the wind and has a great view also! There is another section of rocks in the same area and the road the lay-by is on (see interactive map) that goes into the roaches id imagine there is a lot of views just waiting to be enjoyed down that road!

Rydal Cave
This is a nice long wander and not for the feint hearted as its uneven rocky paths on an incline closest to the cave! I did it in wellies which I don’t recommend ! the wake up the hill around the lake however isn’t its nice and smooth and you may see other people maybe some sheep along the path also! The cave was magnificent very pretty full of colour and textures and visited by a lot of people, I would say out of all the places I have been it was the most populated during half term, that being said there is vast amount of places to picnic, walk hike and even cycle around the lower area of the lake you could easily spend a day here!

Talacre Beach
Lovely lighthouse and beach in North Wales!
